Rushing this process or using harsh methods can set stains permanently and damage technical fabrics, but a few careful steps can restore your gear effectively.
Start with a Thorough Dry Brushing and Pre-Rinse
Before any detergent touches the fabric, let thick, wet mud dry completely until it becomes crumbly. Take the garment outside and brush off all loose dirt with your hands or a soft-bristled brush. For dried sweat and salt stains, hold the affected areas under a gentle stream of cool, running water to loosen and flush out the majority of the residue. This initial dry-and-rinse step removes up to 80% of the surface soil, preventing you from grinding abrasive particles deeper into the fabric during the main wash.
Apply a Targeted Pre-Treatment Before Washing
