Custom Cycling Apparel hand washing instructions

Hand washing remains one of the gentlest, most reliable ways to care for custom cycling apparel that sees heavy use on roads, trails, and in all kinds of weather. Many riders who want to extend the life of their most trusted riding pieces turn to this method, because it gives them full control over every step of the cleaning process.

Prep the Garment Before Submerging
Start by turning the custom cycling apparel completely inside out, just as you would before placing it into a washing machine. This keeps the outer printed, dyed, and textured surfaces protected from unnecessary rubbing and friction against the washbasin or other items you might be cleaning at the same time. Shake off any loose dirt, dried mud, or small debris stuck to the fabric from your last ride before the fabric touches water. If you notice thick, caked-on spots of grime around the cuffs, hem, or seams, use your fingers to gently brush away the loose particles first, so they do not spread deeper into the fabric during the wash.

Use Controlled Water Temperature and Gentle Cleaning Agents
Fill a clean basin with cool or lukewarm water, never hot, because high temperatures can warp the stretch fibers, fade custom dyes, and break down the performance treatments built into the apparel. Add a small amount of mild, fabric-safe cleaning solution to the water and swish it around gently to distribute it evenly before placing the garment inside. Let the apparel soak for a short period of time, usually no more than 15 to 20 minutes, so the water and cleaning agent can lift away sweat, light stains, and road dust without aggressive scrubbing. Never leave it soaking for hours or overnight, because prolonged exposure can stress the seams and cause colors to bleed into unintended areas of the fabric.

Rinse and Press Without Aggressive Twisting
After the short soak, gently work the soapy water through the fabric with slow, light squeezing motions, focusing extra attention on areas that hold the most sweat and grime, like the waistband, underarm panels, and neckline. Do not rub harshly at stained spots or scrub the fabric against itself, because this can create pilling and damage fine surface details. When you are done cleaning, drain the soapy water and refill the basin with fresh, cool water to rinse the apparel thoroughly. Keep squeezing the garment gently until all traces of cleaning solution are gone, then press it between two clean, dry towels to push out excess water. Avoid twisting, wringing, or hanging the heavy, waterlogged apparel by its seams, because that can stretch the fabric out of its original shape permanently.

Once the excess water is removed, lay the custom cycling apparel flat on a fresh, dry towel in a well-ventilated space away from direct sunlight or strong heat sources. This slow, low-stress drying process helps the garment retain its exact fit, feel, and custom details for many more rides ahead.
